Rio Mexican Restaurant

The food was excellent. My friend thought the shrimp ceviche was the best he's ever had. Peruvian corn, marinated sweet potatoes, hominy, peppers fine purple seaweed, mango, onions and other items that all came together perfectly! The skirt steak carna asada was fork tender. The salsa was fresh and tasty.

Today, 5/29/25, marks my first visit to Rio Mexican Restaurant! We were greeted by Evelyn, who seated and served us! She was very patient, attentive, and informative. Ask for her if it's your first visit. She'll make sure you're well taken care of! The atmosphere and aesthetic is fantastic with no shortage of seating! I can't even begin to imagine how much fun it is when they have live music!!! We ordered two Peruvian dishes, Classico Ceviche and Lomo Saltado. The dish presentation was nothing short of beautiful. And the food tastes just as good as it looks. It was so so good! I highly recommend that you find your way to Rio Mexican Restaurant for an authentic taste South of the border!

The staff was very friendly and food was quite good. We had steak fajitas and their twist on fried ice cream (with churros). Both were some of the best I've had in Grand Rapids. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the slow service. We were not in a hurry so it wasn't a problem and it actually added to the feeling that we were dining south of the border. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Got in 10 minutes before the kitchen closed, but they were kind enough to take us in and take our order, service was great, food was great ,portions huge, Friday and saturdays they have karaoke and live music. Since we were late we didn’t have much time to sit in and dine, so asked for boxes and got going.

So it changed to the breakfast house. Which is very good. Definitely need more help though with cleaning tables. We loved the blonde hair girl this morning very helpful and sweet. But you can definitely tell they were overwhelmed. Food was fantastic. Bacon was perfect, as well as the eggs. The French toast was great as well! We will definitely go back.

The food was delicious! It was colorfully decorated. The restaurant is kind of split between a more casual side for take out and quick meals; and the other, quieter, more formal side for sit down meals and parties. Beautifully decorated. The staff was fantastic! The host greeted us right away. I was worried that with twin 1 year olds, this might not be a good fit - but they were so friendly and immediately assured us they had high chairs and kids menus. They even sat us on the quieter side to help keep the kids from being over stimulated. I have to admit, the chicken quesadilla we ordered for the kids to split (which was enormous) had no business being that tasty. Even something simple like the chips and salsa - tasted very fresh. The margaritas and the mojitos were some of the best I've had in town! The Peruvian dishes were phenomenal. I had been craving good ceviche since I came back from the Caribbean and it hit the spot. I was happy to see the restaurant fill up as we approached dinner time. I hope this place stays! We will definitely be back, maybe for a date night.
